How Keep Fleas Off Patio Furniture?

There is a large colony of cats nearby who rest on all the porches. Some residents are very upset because there are fleas left on the patio furniture. Sure, it could be the wildlife, but they are blaming it on the cats. Is there anything I can recommend that they do/use to control this flea problem? I would like to help everyone involved.

Many OTC flea products are toxic to cats. So, spraying the furniture can essentially cause the cats to have seizure-like behavior when exposed. I would call my local animal control and have them trap and remove the cats. Then your neighbor’s won’t have fleas on the furniture and the cats maybe able to be adopted.

The most effective and long-lasting way to kill fleas in your home is to apply orthoboric acid or boric acid. It is non-toxic. There are several brands that you can purchase, including Flea Stoppers. Follow the directions on the package. The product works by drying out the flea eggs and larvae that are present in your carpet, upholstery, and the crevices of your floor. The dried out flea eggs will not be able to hatch, effectively cutting off the fleas’ ability to thrive in your home. If you prefer not to apply the product yourself there are services that will come to your home and treat your carpets for you, such as Fleabusters. Typically your home will require only one application per year to keep it flea free. You can put the powder on the upholstered patio furniture and in the crevices of the patio floor, I know that if you put it on carpet you can shampoo the carpet and the stuff is still effective so maybe it will work well with your patio set up.

If the furniture is outside you could just use some flea spray or powder on the furniture to kill the fleas. Maybe even spray the yard for fleas.

I’ll try to return to your question after work. Do not call animal control as the cats will be put down.
